Read the Latest Technical Issue Paper on Wildlife Risk Assessment
Wildlife Risk Assessment in the 21st Century: Integrating Advancements in Ecology, Toxicology, and Conservation covers the challenges in wildlife ecological risk assessment and reviews recommendations for improvement. This Technical Issue Paper (TIP) is a must-read for risk assessors and managers.
Wildlife risk assessment is used in various regulatory contexts, often encompassing plants, invertebrates, and fish. A wildlife, ecological and environmental risk assessment (WERA) Workshop Team examined regulations in Canada, the EU and the US to identify challenges faced by risk assessors and managers in wildlife applications. They developed recommendations to address these challenges, summarized in this paper. The challenges and recommendations are organized around the core components of WERA: problem formulation, exposure assessment, effects assessment and risk characterization.
